Rework rarely announces its cause.

By the time a fit-up problem shows at assembly, the error behind it entered the process weeks earlier and several stations upstream, where it was cheap to catch and nobody was looking. The assessment traces it back: not just where the rework shows up, but where the error gets in.

Fabrication processes

Cutting, burning, rolling, and forming each have an accuracy of their own. Most shops have never measured it, so every downstream station inherits error nobody budgeted for.

Fit-up and erection

Alignment problems and weld-seam rework at assembly are usually the bill for upstream error coming due, paid at the most expensive point in the schedule.

Sometimes the process is fine and the numbers are wrong. Method, fixturing, repeatability, and technique can leak more accuracy than the instrument spec ever shows.

What accuracy control means.

Accuracy control is the use of statistical techniques to monitor, control, and continuously improve fabrication. Instead of inspecting error out at the end, it catches error early, where correcting it is cheap, and cuts the downstream rework that quietly drains a schedule. It applies at three levels:

Fabricated parts and forming

Understanding what your cutting, burning, rolling, and forming processes actually produce, so allowances reflect data instead of habit.

Assembly and reference lines

Holding structure to reference during fit-up and erection, so sections meet the way the model says they should.

Overall product form

Tracking the finished form against design so the record shows what was built, not what was intended.

Common questions.

How long does an assessment take?

Most run one to three days on site, depending on how many lines and part families are involved, followed by a written report. We scope it before you commit so there are no surprises.

Do we need to buy anything afterward?

No. A fair share of assessments end with process and method changes that cost nothing in capital. We take no commissions from any manufacturer, so nothing on our side pushes toward a purchase.

What do you actually look at?

How parts are measured today, who measures them, what the tolerances require, where rework originates, how measurement data reaches decisions, and what the paperwork says versus what happens on the floor.

Will this disrupt production?

Very little. We work around your schedule and spend most of the time observing and asking questions. We do not need to stop a line to see what we need to see.

We do not have any metrology equipment yet. Is this still for us?

Yes, and it is the right place to start. Every manufacturer has a measurement process, even if it is hand gauges and a clipboard. Knowing what yours costs you is what makes the next decision defensible.
